Sanlúcar de Barrameda is not only famous for its wine – Manzanilla Sherry but also for its horses. Every year, since 1845 this amazing horse race is happening on the beach of Sanlúcar. Spectacular views of the sun set, and racing horses… unforgettable!
The mythology says that the God Febos disengaged the horses of fire of his float when arriving at the coasts of Sanlúcar, to rest.
Some historians attribute the origin of the races to which the horses performed to carry the fish, a hypothesis that others discard because those were different type of the horses, stronger, not racing breed.
The truth is that the horses, wine and famous seafood cuisine are part of this town from old times… and enjoying summer evenings on the beach is a must!
The races are taking part in two sets of three days. This year it was 8th,9th and 10th and will be 22nd, 23rd and 24th of August. The exact time of the race is known on the day due to ocean tight but normally the races start after 18:30. You can buy tickets to seat on tribunes or simply watch the races from the sandy beach of Sanlúcar.
