Chiclana de la Frontera, just like the rest of Andalucía, has a very busy event calendar to offer. The Easter Week and Carnival are two important dates in Chiclana de la Frontera.
The biggest celebration in Chiclana is the Semana Santa, the Easter Week. The religious processions attract many visitors from all around the world. Apart from Easter, you can discover some fantastic events like the Romería de San José or the night of Juan and Juana which is the night that welcomes the summer. During the carnival time all Chiclaneros go partying on the streets in their fancy dresses.

11 - 18 May 2014 - Feria de los Caballos in Jerez de la Frontera

Feria de Jerez, also known as Feria del Caballo (Horse Fair) is one of the most important celebrations in Jerez de la Frontera, only comparable to Easter religious celebrations. It is the most important fair in Cádiz Province.
Its origins are in the medieval ages, during one week farmers gathered to sell and buy animals, in Jerez mainly horses, usually drinking sherry to celebrate the deals.
At the Feria de Jerez all the casetas are public, so anyone can just walk into any one and enjoy the food, drinks, and dancing.

11 - 15 June 2014 - Feria of Chiclana or Fiestas de San Antonio

The Chiclana Fair begins with the holiday of San Antonio, 13 June, and forms one of the most important party dates in the Chiclana calendar. Andalusian tradition and spirit is everywhere: Flamenco and Sevillanas Music, food, sherry, the typical fair-dresses for women and men... for one week Chiclana will be partying day and night.

night of 23 and 24 June 2014 - Hogueras de San Juan and Festividad de San Juan Bautista

The party to celebrate the arrival of summer. At midnight there is burning paper statues of "Juanillos" on the Plaza de Chiclana and then everyone has a big party. The typical dish during that fiesta is caracoles, snailes, witch are in season at this time of the year.
San Juan Bautista, John the Baptist, is the patron of the city.

16 July 2014 - Procesión y Romería de la Virgen del Carmen Atunera

Procession from the Church of San Sebastian through the most important streets of Chiclana "La Banda".
Party for the patrona of the fishermen in Chiclana - Carmen Atunera. On this day people carry the statue of the Virgen del Carmen to the Port of Sancti Petri and take her out onto the sea in a boat. Many other boats are following the virgin to a place called Caño de Sancti Petri on the beach Playa La Barrosa.

26 July 2014 - Festividad de Santa Ana

Ceremonies around the little church of Santa Ana of Chiclana. Fireworks, dancing and tasting the Chiclana's typical sweet wine "Campanas de Santa Ana".

8 September 2014 - Festividad de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios

Chiclana celebrates this day in honour of its patrona, La Señora de Los Remedios. The harvest smells in the air and a huge procession starts from the church of San Telmo with flowers and decorations. Traditional grape stomping is a part of the gift to the patron.

1 November 2014 - Festividad de Todos los Santos - "Tosantos"

It is a very important national public holiday when people from all over the country return to their town or village to lay flowers on the graves of deceased relatives.
Currently the party has recovered the custom of decorating the stalls on the local markets with rabbits, fish or chicken. A typical sweet for this day are the so called "bones of the saints" and can be found in coffee shops.

5 January 2015 - The procession of Three Wise Men

The Christmas holiday season in Spain ends with the traditional Kings' Day parade, as Caspar, Balthasar and Melchior travell through the streets of the city throwing sweets out to the assembled crowds of children and adults.

14 - 22 February 2015 - Carnival de Chiclana de la Frontera

Carnival has a long tradition in the province of Cadiz. It takes place on the streets and fancy dresses are obligatory. Contestants of the local groups compete in the streets plays and satiric songs about the government and society.
There is a large procession on Domingo de Piñata and the entire town is on the streets.

29 March - 5 April 2015 - "Semana Santa", Easter Week

The Semana Santa is the most important religious event of the year in Spain. Chiclana fills up with visitors during this week admiring the detailed processions through town accompanied by traditional Easter music.
At this time of the year you can already feel the summer arriving to Chiclana. Apart from the ceremonies there is also the beach to enjoy.
